The Healing Of Africa Monument Initiation Ceremony
Mr. Brown has received Presidential invites to The Gambia. During one of his visits, he conducted the Initiation Ceremony for The Healing Of Africa Project. More than one hundred guests joined Mr. Brown on James Island and after making a presentation of the project to them, he invited them to stand in line. One by one they approached him and he placed a small piece of clay in their hands. First, they touched and squeezed the clay to make a personal connection, and then they dipped the clay into the dirt where the bare feet of the enslaved Africans once walked. They then placed each piece of clay together to make one lump, to symbolize unity. After a short prayer, everyone returned to the mainland. The level of emotions that permeated the ceremony was extremely moving. Tears flowed and people embraced. Everyone marvelled at the concept of what had taken place, what was about to happen globally, and that they were the first to initiate the creative process.
The President's Blessing
Mr. Brown was then invited to speak at a banquet where the guest of honour was the President of Gambia, Yahya A. J. J. Jameh. As part of his presentation, Mr. Brown approached the President´s table and placed the clay from James Island in front of him. The President then continued the Initiation Ceremony by accepting a piece of clay from Mr. Brown and placing it on top of the lump of clay that had been made by the guests on James Island. Mr. Brown held the clay up for all to see and then explained that this would be the very first piece of clay that would be used to begin the creation of The Healing Of Africa Monument. The uproar of approval was further confirmation of what many continue to say - "It´s about time!"
